Working pianos go to local programs. Others are responsibly dismantled and recycled.
A piano is the one household item where guessing wrong causes real damage. An upright is 300 to 900 pounds with almost all of that weight concentrated in a cast iron plate at the back, so it is top-heavy, wants to tip backward, and will go through drywall or crack a tile floor if it gets away from a crew.
Grands are heavier still and cannot be moved intact through a normal house. The legs and lyre come off, the instrument goes onto a padded piano board on its side, and it is strapped and rolled out. That is a specific procedure, not brute force, and it is why we ask exactly what you have before scheduling.
The good news for most Valley homeowners is that pianos are extremely common in estate cleanouts and almost never worth what people hope. We will tell you honestly whether yours is a donation candidate or whether the practical answer is careful disassembly and recycling.
| Piano type | Typical weight | How it comes out |
|---|---|---|
| Spinet upright | 300-400 lbs | Smallest upright; four-wheel dolly and straps, two-person crew |
| Console upright | 350-450 lbs | Standard family piano; doorway width checked before the move starts |
| Studio upright | 450-600 lbs | School and church style; heavier plate, stair descent needs a third person |
| Full upright / player piano | 600-900 lbs | Player mechanism adds weight; often disassembled in place |
| Baby grand (5-6 ft) | 500-650 lbs | Legs and lyre removed, body on a padded piano board, rolled out on its side |
| Grand (6-9 ft) | 700-1,300 lbs | Same procedure, larger board, and a wide clear path from room to truck |
Pricing is based on the truck space your items take, and the price is confirmed on site before anything is loaded. Text photos for a fast number or book a free estimate.
If the piano holds tune, has an intact soundboard and no cracked pin block, we look for a home before anything else. Schools, churches and community programs across the Valley take playable instruments, and moving a working piano to someone who wants it is a far better outcome than scrapping it.
Most of the pianos we are called about do not clear that bar. A piano that has spent a decade in a Phoenix garage or against an exterior wall has usually suffered soundboard cracks and pin block failure from heat cycling, and the cost of restoration far exceeds what the instrument is worth. Tuners will tell you the same thing.
When an instrument cannot be saved, it gets dismantled rather than dumped. The cast iron plate and the strings are heavy scrap metal and go to a Valley yard, the hardwood case goes to wood recycling, and the felt, ivory-look keytops and plastics are the only real waste. Almost 70 percent of a piano by weight is recoverable metal.
Stairs are the single biggest factor in a piano removal. Three steps down from a sunken living room is manageable. A full flight from a second-floor bonus room turns a two-person job into a three or four-person controlled descent with stair boards, and that has to be scheduled rather than squeezed in.
Older Arcadia and central Phoenix homes often have a piano that was placed before a doorway was retrimmed or a floor was raised with new tile. If the instrument no longer fits its original path, we disassemble in place: the action comes out, the plate is separated, and it leaves in pieces. That is a longer visit and we will say so before you book.
A promise worth making explicit: we do not drag pianos. Every move goes on a proper piano dolly or board with straps, on protected flooring, with jamb guards. Damage on a piano job is almost always the result of someone improvising with a furniture dolly.

Yes. Uprights from spinets to full 900-pound players are routine for us with a piano dolly, straps and a two to three-person crew depending on stairs.
Yes. The legs and lyre come off, the body goes onto a padded piano board on its side, and it is strapped and rolled out. That is the standard procedure for any grand.
Usually less than people expect. Heat cycling in Arizona cracks soundboards and pin blocks, and restoration typically costs more than the instrument is worth. Playable pianos we route to schools, churches or community programs.

Yes, with a larger crew and stair boards. Tell us about the stairs when you book so the right number of people is scheduled.
We use jamb guards, floor protection under the wheels and furniture blankets on every piano job, and we are fully insured.
Pricing depends on the size of the piano, how many pieces you have, and access at the property (stairs, elevators, tight hallways). We give a firm, no-obligation quote before we load anything, so you always know the price up front. Call or text photos of your piano for the fastest quote.
No. Our crew handles all the lifting and carrying from wherever the piano sits, including upstairs bedrooms, basements, garages, and back patios. Just point at it and we take it from there.
In most cases, yes. We keep same-day and next-day slots open across Scottsdale and the Valley. Same-day availability depends on how full the schedule is, so calling earlier in the day gives you the best chance.
We sort every load. Usable pianos in good condition go to local donation partners, recyclable metal, cardboard, and electronics go to recycling facilities, and only what nobody can reuse goes to a licensed transfer station. Nothing gets dumped illegally.
We are based in Scottsdale and serve the Valley, including Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Glendale, Peoria, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek, and Fountain Hills. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and we will confirm.
