Laundry appliances are heavy, plumbed and often stacked, which puts them in a category of their own. A front-load washer carries a concrete counterweight bolted inside the cabinet, so a machine that looks the same size as a dryer weighs nearly twice as much and will not tip safely on a standard hand truck.
Most Valley homes put the laundry pair in a closet off the hallway or in the garage. The closet version is the tight one: bifold doors, a 28-inch opening, and a drain standpipe behind the machine that has to be cleared before anything slides forward. We take the doors off if that is what it takes.
We disconnect hoses at the shutoff valves and unplug electric units. Gas dryers are the exception: we do not disconnect gas lines. Have the line capped by a plumber or the gas utility first, and then the removal itself is straightforward.
| Appliance | Typical weight | Handling notes |
|---|---|---|
| Top-load washer | 150-200 lbs | Water lines closed at the valve; drum drained before the tilt |
| Front-load washer | 200-260 lbs | Concrete counterweight inside; two-person lift, never tipped alone |
| Electric dryer | 100-140 lbs | Unplugged from the 240V outlet; vent hose pulled at the wall |
| Gas dryer | 120-150 lbs | Gas line must be capped by a licensed plumber before we arrive |
| Stacked laundry center | 250-350 lbs | Unstacked or unbracketed on site, then moved as two pieces |
| Pedestal drawer base | 50-80 lbs each | Unbolted from the machine; easy add-on to the same pickup |
Pricing is based on the truck space your items take, and the price is confirmed on site before anything is loaded. Text photos for a fast number or book a free estimate.
Laundry appliances are one of the best recycling stories we handle. A washer is mostly steel cabinet, a stainless or porcelain drum, a copper-wound motor and a concrete block, and every one of those goes to a Valley scrap yard rather than a landfill.
Dryers break down the same way: steel drum and housing, an aluminum blower, and a motor. The drum belt and plastic control panel are the only meaningful waste, which is why an appliance pickup that leaves your house at 350 pounds contributes almost nothing to the transfer station.
If the pair still runs, tell us. If a washer or dryer still works, mention that when booking so current reuse options can be discussed before disposal.
Stacked units are the job people underestimate most. The upper machine is either bracketed or strapped to the lower one, sits above shoulder height, and has to come down in a space with no room to stand behind it. That is a two-person lift with a step platform, not something to try solo in a hallway closet.
Second-floor laundry rooms are common in newer Gilbert and Chandler builds, and a 250-pound front loader coming down carpeted stairs needs stair-tread protection and a controlled descent. There is no extra fee for it, but the window runs a bit longer.
Watch for the drain standpipe. Sliding a washer straight forward without lifting the drain hose out first will snap the pipe at the wall, and that turns a haul-away into a plumbing repair. Our crews clear it first every time.

Yes, at the fittings, once you have closed the hot and cold shutoff valves. We also pull the drain hose out of the standpipe so nothing breaks on the way out.
We can haul it, but the gas line must be capped by a licensed plumber or the gas utility before we arrive. We do not disconnect gas lines.
Yes. We unbracket the units on site and move them as two separate pieces. Let us know it is stacked when you book so we send the right crew.
They go to a Valley scrap yard where the steel cabinet, drum, copper motor and aluminum parts are all recovered. If a set still works, mention its condition when booking so current reuse options can be discussed.
Almost always, and we remove bifold doors when the opening is tight. Send a photo of the closet when you book if you are unsure.
Yes. Pedestal drawers, a utility sink, old shelving and anything else being replaced can all go on the same trip.
Pricing depends on the size of the washer and dryer, how many pieces you have, and access at the property (stairs, elevators, tight hallways). We give a firm, no-obligation quote before we load anything, so you always know the price up front. Call or text photos of your washer and dryer for the fastest quote.
No. Our crew handles all the lifting and carrying from wherever the washer and dryer sits, including upstairs bedrooms, basements, garages, and back patios. Just point at it and we take it from there.
In most cases, yes. We keep same-day and next-day slots open across Scottsdale and the Valley. Same-day availability depends on how full the schedule is, so calling earlier in the day gives you the best chance.
We sort every load. Usable washer and dryers in good condition go to local donation partners, recyclable metal, cardboard, and electronics go to recycling facilities, and only what nobody can reuse goes to a licensed transfer station. Nothing gets dumped illegally.
We are based in Scottsdale and serve the Valley, including Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Glendale, Peoria, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek, and Fountain Hills. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and we will confirm.
Yes. Mora's Junk Removal is a fully insured local company with 5+ years of experience and a 5.0 Google rating from 179 reviews. Your floors, walls, and property are protected while we work.
Absolutely. Most customers add a few extra items once the truck is on site. We can take furniture, appliances, mattresses, electronics, yard waste, garage clutter, and general household junk in the same trip, usually for less than booking a second pickup.
